Privacy
Policy
Last updated: October 2026
Our Voice Media ("Our Voice", "we", "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why we collect it, who we share it with and what your rights are under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). By using this website you accept this policy.
1. Who we are
Our Voice Media is a community-focused media company based in Kimberley, Northern Cape, South Africa. For POPIA purposes we are the responsible party for the personal information described below.
Contact for all privacy matters: ourvoicepage@gmail.com · 068 202 4282.
2. What information we collect
- Information you give us. When you use the contact form we collect your name, email address, phone number (optional), the topic you choose and your message. We collect the same kind of information if you email, call or message us on WhatsApp or social media.
- Technical information. Our website host records basic technical data when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, device and the pages you request. We use it to keep the site running and secure.
- Embedded content. Some pages show content from Facebook and YouTube. Those services may collect information about you, and may set cookies, when that content loads (see section 6).
- Photos and video from events. We photograph and film at our events and may publish these on our website and social media. See section 8.
3. Why we use your information
- To read and reply to your enquiry and to follow up where needed.
- To organise and communicate about our events, screenings and projects.
- To run, protect and improve this website.
- To meet our legal obligations.
We only collect what we need for these purposes. We do not sell your personal information and we do not use it for direct marketing unless you ask us to keep you updated.
4. Who we share it with
We share information only with service providers who help us run the website and handle your enquiries, and only as needed:
- Google (Gmail), which delivers contact-form messages to our inbox.
- Vercel, which hosts this website.
- Meta (Facebook) and Google (YouTube), whose content is embedded on some pages.
- Ticketing partners such as Webtickets, Pick n Pay and Boxer, if you buy event tickets. They have their own privacy policies and we do not receive your payment details.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it or to protect our rights or the safety of others.
5. Where your information is stored
Some of the providers above store or process information outside South Africa, for example in the United States or Europe. Where that happens we rely on providers that apply appropriate safeguards, as POPIA requires for cross-border transfers.
6. Cookies and embedded content
We do not run advertising or tracking cookies of our own. Embedded Facebook and YouTube content may set their own cookies or collect usage data when it loads. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but some embedded content may then not display. You can read how those companies use information in their own policies.
7. How long we keep it
We keep enquiries for as long as we need them to deal with your request and any follow-up, and then delete or archive them. We keep event records only as long as they are useful for the purpose of the event.
8. Photos and video at events
When you attend an Our Voice event, you may be photographed or filmed, and the material may appear on this website and our social media pages to tell the story of the event. If you do not want to appear, tell a member of our team at the event or email us and we will remove or blur the material where we can.
9. Keeping your information safe
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect personal information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No online system is completely secure, so please do not send sensitive information such as ID numbers or banking details through the contact form.
10. Your rights
Under POPIA you may ask us to:
- confirm whether we hold personal information about you and give you a copy;
- correct information that is wrong or out of date;
- delete information we no longer need or have no right to keep;
- stop using your information, or object to how we use it;
- withdraw consent you have given us, at any time.
To use any of these rights, email ourvoicepage@gmail.com. We may need to confirm who you are first. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information you can complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.
11. Children
This website is not aimed at children under 18 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information through it. If you believe a child has sent us information, please contact us and we will delete it. Where we film or photograph learners at school screenings, we do so with the school's permission.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top shows when it last changed. Continued use of the website after a change means you accept the updated policy.
